FOPP CHRISTMAS 2017 NEWSLETTER

December 2017

Hello to all members and welcome to the FOPP Christmas newsletter!

We are really pleased to announce that the next phase of The Wetlands Development is scheduled to begin on 8th January 2018, This is to build walkways through and around the wetlands using ramps and steps and an outdoor classroom area, signage.  On paper, this all looks very good and we would hope park visitors will understand some restriction to existing pathways may be in operation whilst work is ongoing, as this work is starting in January this should not interfere with the wildlife nesting period and limit any disruption to wildlife in the area.

The Victoria Cross Memorial Service which took place on 6th December went off very well, the whole area has been tidied up and bulb planting will be taking place shortly weather permitting.  FOPP are currently searching for a desilting company to clear the pond as our next stage of Pond refurbishment. We also plan to plant up an area of wildflowers and poppies, The broken crazy-paving pathway is to be replaced with a tarmac path and extra benches installed in this area as we go into 2018.

A great deal of gardening has been done at the entrance area of the visitor centre and it is becoming a very pleasant area to be.  Please note there is no longer a refuge bin in this area after a fire destroyed it and all rubbish must be taken to another bin close by or the council yard.

We have noticed an overall reduction in anti-social behaviour in the park this is mostly due to the presence of a police team holding drop-in surgeries at the Visitor Centre this is going to continue into the New Year and the dates we have so far are 26th January and 23rd February.

Our Swan family is still doing very well Jenny, Margaret and Sumishta will continue with the feeding programme throughout the winter and very many thanks to all you unsung heroes who help us. They love seeded wholemeal bread, grapes cut in half lengthways, sweetcorn, lettuce and of course swan pellets.

WILCO online, will order in swan pellets for collection at their Edmonton Green Store for those of you who are having difficulty finding a local supplier.

We always need volunteers in all aspects of Park Life, especially anyone with funding application skills to help us apply for funding for projects.  If anyone has a project of their own please let us know.

Wishing you all a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy Healthy 2018 from all the Admin team!
